Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers about our watches, movements, ordering, shipping, returns, warranty, and service.

Watches & Movements

What movements do Tin Can Timepieces watches use?

Movement choice depends on the model. Our catalog includes proven Japanese movements such as Seiko automatic and meca-quartz movements, as well as Swiss automatic movements including the Sellita SW200 in select Swiss Made models. Check each watch's product page for its exact movement.

What is the difference between Japanese-movement and Swiss Made models?

Both are selected to be dependable, serviceable movements. Japanese movements are known for rugged reliability and strong value. Our Swiss Made models use Swiss movements and are offered for customers who specifically want Swiss watchmaking and movement options. The exact movement varies by model, so the product page is the best source for a specific watch.

What movement is in The Old Man Swiss Made?

The Old Man Swiss Made uses a Sellita SW200 automatic movement.

Are all Tin Can watches automatic?

No. The movement depends on the watch. Tin Can Timepieces offers automatic, meca-quartz, and digital quartz models.

Sizing, Straps & Customization

Are strap sizes the same on every watch?

No. Strap and lug widths vary by model. Please check the individual product page before ordering a replacement strap or accessory.

Do you offer engraving or customization?

Customization is available on certain watches and special releases. If a product offers engraving or another custom option, follow the instructions on that product page when ordering.

Water Resistance & Care

Are Tin Can watches waterproof?

Water resistance is model-specific. Always stay within the water-resistance rating listed for your watch. Swimming within the watch's stated rating is considered normal use under our warranty.

What should I check before getting my watch wet?

Make sure the crown is completely secured and operate the watch only within its rated specifications. Water damage caused by an unsecured crown or use outside the watch's rated specifications is not covered by the warranty.

Can I wear my watch in a hot shower or expose it to steam?

No. Never expose your watch to steam or very hot water, including hot showers or hot water while washing your hands. Heat and steam can compromise the watch's seals and O-rings and may allow moisture to enter the case. Water resistance does not mean a watch is protected from steam or extreme temperature changes.

Are scratches and normal wear covered by warranty?

No. Scratches, scuffs, strap wear, bezel wear, and similar cosmetic marks from everyday use are expected and are not considered warranty defects.

Ordering & Shipping

How quickly do in-stock watches ship?

In-stock watches typically ship within 2–3 business days after the order is placed.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Tin Can Timepieces ships internationally.

How do pre-orders and limited releases work?

Pre-order, reservation, and limited-release terms can vary by watch. Any deposit, balance, expected delivery timing, or production-limit information will be stated on the applicable product page.

Returns

How do I return a watch?

Before shipping a watch back to Tin Can Timepieces, please contact us through the contact form on our website and let us know that you will be returning the watch. Customers are responsible for return shipping. Once we receive the returned watch, we will inspect it and then issue the refund.

Warranty & Service

How long is the Tin Can Timepieces warranty?

Every Tin Can Timepieces watch purchased through an authorized source is covered by a three-year limited warranty from the original date of purchase.

What does the three-year warranty cover?

The warranty covers defects in materials, manufacturing, assembly, and movement performance under normal use. At Tin Can Timepieces' discretion, a covered watch will be repaired or replaced with the same model or, if unavailable, a comparable model. Warranty claims are not eligible for cash refunds.

What is not covered by the warranty?

The warranty does not cover intentional abuse, gross negligence, unauthorized modifications or repairs, chemical or fire damage, crushing, accidents, improper operation, or water damage resulting from an unsecured crown or use outside the watch's rated specifications. Normal cosmetic wear is also not considered a warranty defect.

Who pays shipping for warranty work?

Tin Can Timepieces provides and pays for shipping both to and from our service facility for approved warranty evaluations and warranty repairs. If a repair falls outside warranty coverage, we will provide a repair estimate before work is performed.

How are warranty claims reviewed?

We evaluate warranty claims in good faith. Customers are not expected to prove that a watch failed during normal use; unless there is clear evidence of misuse or abuse, our goal is to provide a fair resolution and take care of the customer whenever reasonably possible.
